1. What is OBE?
OBE is Outcome Based Education. It is a method of curriculum design and teaching that focuses on what students gained and actually do after they are taught. It is also to understand how students learn. It involves documenting the intended results, how the results will be measured and monitored and also taking action to make real learning happen. It is also process that involves the restructuring of curriculum, assessment and reporting practices in education to reflect the achievement of higher order learning and mastery rather than accumulation of course credits.
2. Why do we need OBE?
OBE is needed to achieve the requirement of Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) in the process of accreditation of ALL Malaysian Higher Education Provider (HEP). OBE is also designed to achieve the mission and vision of UiTM to produce World Class Bumiputra Human Capital through all the learning outcomes set by the faculties.
3. Who needs to know and implement OBE?
All UiTM Lecturers, students and academic administrators.
4. When has OBE implemented?
OBE in UiTM started in July 2010 with the first semester students implementing the new curriculum.
5. What is MQF?
MQF is Malaysian Qualification Framework. It is an instrument that develops and classifies qualifications based on a set of criteria that is approved nationally. It is also at par with international practices, and which clarifies the earned academic levels, learning outcomes of study areas and credit system based on student academic load.
6. What is SCL?
SCL is Student Centered Learning. Students are responsible for their own learning.
7. Why SCL?
The focus of student centered learning rather than teacher centered is to encourage deeper and richer learning experience for the student.
8. How to implement SCL?
Educators must be creative in planning their Teaching and Learning Activities (TLA) to encourage students to be responsible for their own learning. Educators also need to guide students to manage their learning time (SLT) accordingly.
